Furnace was cleaned today by Mike's Heating and Cooling. The guy told me the burner can be replaced with a gas one for ~$3200. That would probably be wise.
It would also be wise to specify:
- existing burner gpm and nozzle angle
- gallons of oil used last year
And also to look online for advice. The HeatingHelp forum has discussion of this, for instance.

Jeni and I talked about this. She was billed $5,743.68 last year for oil. We are guessing that gas might cost half that much for a year, but that is just a wild guess. But we are installing mini-split heat pumps so we're thinking: run one more year on oil. That way we can more directly compare this year with last, and the cost of installing a gas burner next year should be about the same. And we can use up the oil next February and then burn wood and use the mini-splits.
I will call Michael's Heating today to tell him.
